Hand Safety Best Practices

Posted on Aug 19, 2013 11:53:00 AM

We are providing you, our teammates in safety, with some health and safety materials to help ensure all of your employees stay engaged in their work activities and aware of the hazards associated with their work. Our goal is to return everybody home safely at the end of the day.

Why are we doing this?

Our largest client has done a similar review for the past few years and has found it successful. They have, therefore, asked us to provide a mid-year focus on Hand Safety and Daily Tasks. The purpose of this is to remind everyone of the importance of keeping our heads in the game and our hands safe. Based on injury experience at least 50 percent of work injuries occur to our hands.

Many of these injuries can be avoided simply through better job planning and performing quality Safe Performance Self Assessments (SPSAs) and taking the time to Assess, Analyze and Act while onsite. While this may require stopping work, getting input from a subject matter expert, doing the job a different way or upgrading PPE (e.g., impact resistant or puncture resistant gloves) the reduced risk of injury is well worth the effort.

What is the expectation?

We understand that you may be an administrative contact or an owner of the company; either way share this with your safety and management teams. Whether you broach the subject at an organized safety meeting or slowly incorporate these ideas into daily practice, Roux hopes that we can help you keep your employees  safe on the job.
